Martha Lispier is the creator of the Barstown Castle series, a dark fantasy series exploring power, guardianship, corruption, consequence, and awakening.
Her work blends psychological depth with fantasy, exploring how personal choices, inherited responsibilities, and hidden truths shape both individuals and the worlds around them. Through the Barstown Castle series, she is developing an interconnected five-book story designed to expand beyond the page into visual and screen storytelling.
THE STORY BEHIND THE STORY
Barstown Castle grew from an interest in what happens when responsibility is ignored, power is misused, and people are forced to confront the consequences of what they have allowed to take root.
The series uses fantasy to explore deeply human themes—accountability, inherited duty, corruption, healing, identity, and transformation. The supernatural world of Barstown provides the setting, but the emotional conflicts are grounded in choices, relationships, and the difficult process of confronting what has been hidden.
THE CREATIVE VISION
Barstown Castle is being developed as more than a single novel. The larger vision includes an interconnected five-book series, visual world-building, character development, and screen adaptation.
Each part of the project is designed to deepen the same central world while allowing the story to expand across different forms of storytelling. As the series develops, the novels remain the foundation from which the larger Barstown universe continues to grow.
